Australia By: Jayonna Harris Book: gunshot road K. Gaspari January 12, 2012

Culture Austria is famous for its festivals that take place there. One in particular is the called the Sydney festival that honors artist and performers alike. It takes place in January and consists of dance, theater, visual art, film and large outdoor events. The start of the book takes place in during a festival reflecting on how important they are to Austrians. Also socor is a very famous sports families offten play on sundays.

Interesting facts The kangaroo is one of the most famous animals in Australia. It has a lot of large cities And is ranked number 6 in the world. They have a president and use certain symbols to notify People what royal family they come from.

Natural wonders The Twelve apostils ocean road. Its located on the southern most part of the continent over a long period of erosion it carved flat road like rocks on the side of a mountain. Also the great barrier reef is located within the waters of Australia. It is a large string of coral reef that homes a lot of exotic animals one of them being the dugong whale.

Shocking culture The culture presented in this book seems to be all about man power. Emily wasn't looked as “good” cop only cause she was a women little did they know she was going to prove them wrong by solving one of the biggest mysteries of any polices life. They have a lot of festivals mainly involving women.

Themes Power, strength, stubbornness and will power is the main themes of the book. Emily was very stubborn and hard headed I think that she was strong because she knew she was going to be discriminated against but she took the challenge on anyways.

Handling conflict If I was the main character I wouldn’t change a thing about how she handled the conflict. Being that she knew “wireless” and “Doc” she knew their personalities and was surprised to hear they had a confrontation. She didn’t want to blame neither of them being hard headed she did more investigating it might have not been the right thing in her co-workers eyes but she learned from that experience that you have to stick to what you believe in and not let people tell you no.

Main Conflict I believe that the main conflict was exterior. Emily was content with herself but not with how the other cops where treating her. She was discriminated against because she was a women no a “mans world” but in all actuality she was just as good as them if not even better.

Culture differences Although our cultures are very alike they are also very different. For one we do not have festivals nearly as much as they do in Australia. Another would be their government is a constitutional monarchy where a king and queen are present and laws are most likely stricter. Being that we have a democracy laws are more open and we have more of a freedom of speech.

Similarities Emily had a lot of the same personality traits. She seems to be a independent female something you see in a lot of females now days. She goes after what she believes in and I try to do that every day. She is stubborn and if she believes in something strongly her mind cant be changed. I am a lot like that specially in a speech and debate class.
