PJAS  Please sign your name on the sheet of loose leaf so I know who was here today.  How many of you are presenting in PJAS for the first time?

Presentations  Presentations must be saved as a PDF!!! Use Power-point to do them.  They must be uploaded to the pjasregistration website by Tuesday 2/16 midnight. (No video, no audio, no moving pictures). MUST INCLUDE YOUR NAME AS THE FILE NAME  You must also save your presentation on your own personal flash drive and bring this with you the day of the competition as a back up in case the internet is not working.  You must save your final project to my flash drive. PJAS is requesting me to drop off 1 flash drive with all of your projects on it the day of the competition.  You may use a laser pointer during your presentation, any misuse of the laser pointer before, during or after the presentation will disqualify you.

Presentations cont.  You must sign up on the google doc TODAY with a presentation time to present your final project to me.  Every member must present in front of me before uploading a final draft NO EXEMPTIONS!  Let’s review the hand out forms for the format of your projects.

Presentation Basic Format – Judging Criteria Form (Math form for math people)  Scientific Method  Problem (state)  Purpose – scientific importance  Background Info (Relevant Research)  Formal Hypothesis (if, then, because), must be developed from background info  Materials (Can use pictures to support words)  Procedure (clearly written): must name control and variables, must keep all measurements/units in metric system BE CLEAR! (Can use pictures to support words)  Analysis: review data here, graphs and data tables imperative, include statistics, this is one of the most important parts! (Can use pictures to support words)  Conclusion: relate your findings back to your hypothesis (restate), be clear in the overall finding of your data and the importance of your project.  Further Research: If you could continue, what else could you do?

Presentation: Style (Bottom of form)  The presentation should be in the form of a free talk employing good oral communication skills. The time restrictions in the rules necessitate planning and rehearsal. (10 min) The critical question is “When the student is finished do you understand exactly what he did and why?”  a) Does the talk cover all the essentials of the project - the basic premises, the hypothesis or problem, the experimental methods, the data, and the conclusions?  b) Is the talk well-organized and flowing in a logical pattern? Eye contact, posture, proper volume.  C)Do the audiovisual aids enhance the audience's understanding?  d) Does the student demonstrate through the presentation and his responses during the questioning period a firm understanding of the basic scientific principles involved?

Statistics  All presentations will need this.  Minimum: Averages and % change from the control.  Utilize the help of your math teachers for this.  Helpful site:  0use%20what%20test.pdf 0use%20what%20test.pdf
