Copyright © 2009, Oracle. All rights reserved Objectives After completing this lesson, you should be able to: Configure delivery devices Add delivery profiles Build alerts Create iBots

Copyright © 2009, Oracle. All rights reserved Oracle Business Intelligence Delivers Automates Business Intelligence Creates alerts based on Business Intelligence results Detects specific results and immediately notifies the appropriate person or group through Web, wireless, mobile, and voice communications channels

Copyright © 2009, Oracle. All rights reserved Oracle Business Intelligence Delivers Delivery devices Delivery profiles iBots Alerts

Copyright © 2009, Oracle. All rights reserved Delivery Devices Business Intelligence content can be delivered to a variety of devices: Web browser Pager Digital cell phone Wireless PDA Any other device capable of handling standards-based communication

Copyright © 2009, Oracle. All rights reserved Delivery Profiles Determine which device receives content Examples –Office profile that delivers content to Web Browser and office –“On the Road” profile that delivers content to a pager or PDA depending on priority

Copyright © 2009, Oracle. All rights reserved iBots Are software-based engines that execute requests and generate responses to the appropriate people and devices Contain the following elements: –Priority and visibility –Conditional request –Schedule –Recipients –Delivery content –Destination Can also execute scripts

Copyright © 2009, Oracle. All rights reserved Business Intelligence Alerts Alerts are triggered when conditions that are configured in iBots are met. If an alert is generated, the Alerts! link appears at the top of the Interactive Dashboard page. A specific Alerts section can be added to any dashboard page, and an Alerts section then appears automatically on the first page of My Dashboard.

Copyright © 2009, Oracle. All rights reserved Accessing Delivers To access Oracle BI Delivers, select More Products > Delivers.

Copyright © 2009, Oracle. All rights reserved Delivers Start Page From the Delivers window, you can create a new iBot, edit your account, review shared iBots, and so on. 1 2

Copyright © 2009, Oracle. All rights reserved Steps to Configure an iBot 1.Configure the General tab. 2.Configure the Conditional Request tab (optional). 3.Configure the Schedule tab. 4.Configure the Recipients tab. 5.Configure the Delivery Content tab. 6.Configure the Destinations tab. 7.Configure the Advanced tab (if necessary). 8.Save the iBot.

Copyright © 2009, Oracle. All rights reserved Configure the General tab. Configure three settings: Priority: High, Normal, Low Data Visibility: “Personalized” or “Not personalized” Run As: If you select “Not personalized,” you can specify the user ID that is used to run the data (in other words, mimic that user ID).

Copyright © 2009, Oracle. All rights reserved Configure the Conditional Request tab. (Optional) Select the request that triggers the iBot. The iBot is considered to be triggered if the request returns one or more rows. Click to add request.

Copyright © 2009, Oracle. All rights reserved Configure the Schedule tab. There are three parts to an iBot schedule: –Start date and time –Recurrence –End date and time The time reference is for the Oracle BI Scheduler server rather than the local machine. Start Recurrence End

Copyright © 2009, Oracle. All rights reserved Configure the Recipients tab. Recipients –Yourself (not required) –Others Subscription options –Select whether or not to publish the iBot and who subscribes to the published iBot. Recipients can be determined conditionally by the results of a request.

Copyright © 2009, Oracle. All rights reserved Configure the Delivery Content tab. a.Select the request to be delivered. –Does not have to be the Conditional request that triggers the iBot b.Enter a headline. –Minimized length for c.Select message format. d.Add additional message content as necessary.

Copyright © 2009, Oracle. All rights reserved Configure the Destinations tab. Destinations –Dashboard –Delivery profile Devices –Selecting devices here overrides the user’s delivery profile.

Copyright © 2009, Oracle. All rights reserved Configure the Destinations tab. Services: BI administrators can create a Oracle BI Server cache for individual users. A cache-seeding operation enables administrators to run requests on dashboard pages (or requests stored in the Oracle BI Presentation Catalog) and to create an Oracle BI Server cache. Cache-seeding speeds up response time for users when they actually run the requests on the dashboards. If data already exists in the cache for a given query, the data is deleted and refreshed when the iBot runs.

Copyright © 2009, Oracle. All rights reserved Configure the Advanced tab (if necessary). Specify one or more actions to execute when this iBot completes: Another iBot (often referred to as iBot chaining) Custom script

Copyright © 2009, Oracle. All rights reserved Save the iBot. a.Click the Save button. b.Name the iBot. c.Click OK.

Copyright © 2009, Oracle. All rights reserved Additional Considerations Oracle BI Scheduler Scripted jobs

Copyright © 2009, Oracle. All rights reserved Oracle BI Scheduler Is the engine behind the iBots Supports two types of jobs: –iBots –Scripted jobs that you set up and submit by using the Job Manager feature of the Oracle Business Intelligence Administration Tool

Copyright © 2009, Oracle. All rights reserved Scripted Jobs The Oracle BI Scheduler supports two scripting languages: –VBScript –JavaScript Example: Take the Oracle BI Server usage statistics that are logged in a file and periodically load them into a back-end database. The script defines the actions to be performed and the schedule for executing them.
