Activity Scenario learning

Scenario A nursery teacher has approached you and mentioned that she has concerns about the lack of spoken language shown by a particular child. She has spoken to the child’s mother who expressed surprise and described her child as a ‘real chatterbox’.

The perspective of the teacher… …of the child and of the parent

Use a mind mapping tool... Consider the given scenario Use a mind mapping app. ( for example SimpleMinds) to identify different decision pathways Identify your two priority action points

What might you consider? Is this a real or perceived problem? Is the child’s well being an issue? How might you find out a ‘richer picture’ of the situation childteacher parentpeers environmentother adults

What will I do.. Suggest two actions involving each participant? What is the potential outcome of each decision? How will you determine if your actions have been successful? Action 1Action 2 teacher child parent

How have your actions reconciled these different viewpoints?

Share this activity... Scenario learning is a useful tool for sharing with colleagues. If used in a small group, it can help you discover new ways of thinking about a situation. It can help you make a more balanced judgement.
