Story Structure Terminology
A necdote A short and amusing or interesting story about a real incident or person.
Back Story A simplified, small amount of information to give the reader some information.
Comic Relief A comic episode in a dramatic or literary work that offsets a more serious section. EX: Timon and Pumba holding a luau in the middle of a tense situation.
Flashback A scene set in a time earlier than the main story. The entire movie Titanic is a flashback.
Foreshadow Indication of a future event in the story
Pace The speed or rate at which something happens, changes, or develops
Past/Present/Future The frame of time for which a story is told in
Plot Line The progression of a story including: the exposition, rising action, climax, falling action and resolution
Point of View The perspective in which a story is told/presented
