Lesson Objectives To understand key words associated with mental health To distinguish between foods/eating habits which may have a positive or negative impact on mental health To reflect on your own personal eating habits and the impact of these habits on your own mental health

Mental health is defined as a state of well-being in which every individual realizes his or her own potential can cope with the normal stresses of life can work productively and fruitfully is able to make a contribution to her or his community

Energy Is the strength and vitality required for sustained physical or mental activity

Mood is defined as a temporary state of mind or feeling

Feeling is defined as an emotional state or reaction. The four main feelings are 1. Glad 2. Mad 3. Sad 4.Scared

Task On the tray in front of you there are a selection of foods including names of food groups and pictures. Working as a team and using your general knowledge and the information provided divide the foods into the following groups 1.Foods that have a positive effect on mental health 2.Food that have a negative effect on mental health 3.Debatable You need to be able to explain why you put each food into each group so write an explanation on your sheets
