Presentation transcript:

constructivism was an artistic and architectural movement in Russia from 1919 onward which rejected the idea of "art for arts sake" in favor of art as a practice directed towards social purposes.

propaganda information, ideas, or rumors deliberately spread widely to help (or harm) a person, group, movement, institution, nation, etc.

agitprop (pr. A-j ə t-PROP)- A combination of “agitation” and “propaganda”. It most often refers to communist- or socialist-oriented political propaganda disseminated especially through literature, art, theater, or music. Also, a work, such as a painting, sculpture, poster, or video, that is designed to impress a certain political or social attitude on its audience, with little or no consideration given to accuracy.

Vladimir Mayakovski ( ) Translation: DO YOU WANT TO? JOIN! 1. Do you want to conquer coldness? 2. Do you want to conquer hunger? 3. Do you want to eat? 4. Do you want to drink? Hurry up to join the strike team of exemplary labor.

Russian artists worked together and called themselves "advertising constructors". Together they designed eye-catching images featuring bright colors, geometric shapes, and bold lettering. The lettering of most of these designs was intended to create a reaction and get viewers to do what the poster said to do!
