Responsibilities of students 1.Contribute to a safe orderly environment 2. Be familiar with rules and policies 3. Attend school every day 4. Strive towards the highest level of academic achievement

Responsibilities of students 5. React positively to directions of staff 6. Control anger 7. Ask questions when you don’t understand something 8. Seek help in solving problems that may lead to discipline

Responsibilities of students 9. Conduct themselves as representatives of the district when participating in or attending attending school sponsored events. Uphold the highest standards of conduct, demeanor and sportsmanship.

Responsibilities of students 10. Tell a responsible adult if one hears that another student is going to cause harm to others.

Code of conduct Prohibits the following kinds of conduct…

“conduct that is disorderly…” Unreasonable noise inappropriate language or gestures Engage in any willful act the disrupts the normal operation of the school community

“conduct that is disorderly…” Bullying or intimidation Play-fighting “rough physical contact” Computer / electronic misuse

“conduct that is insubordinate…” Refusing a reasonable request of an adult. Refusing to identify yourself or giving staff the wrong name is insubordination!

Code of Conduct Prohibits Any of the following without permission of a school official: Lateness to class or to school Missing or leaving school Skipping detention Leaving campus at any time

“conduct that is violent…” Committing or attempting

“conduct that is violent…” Fighting Impulsivity Stop and think before you act! “I couldn’t take it anymore…” Tell an adult “We were just fooling around, then it turned real…” Keep your hands to yourself DO NOT EVEN START IT! STUDENTS WHO FIGHT WILL BE SUSPENDED

“conduct that is violent…” Weapons –Possessing –Displaying –Threatening THIS INCLUDES TOYS OR FACSIMILES OF WEAPONS

“conduct that is violent…” Intentionally damaging or destroying school property or the property of others

Conduct that endangers the safety and/or welfare of others… Harassment Intimidation Exclusion Hate Lists Don’t say or write or imply Do not say threatening things! Don’t say “I will insert violent act here” You may be held responsible if conduct at home disrupts the school community!

Bullying Repetitive negative actions over time Purposeful--intent is to hurt Usually involves imbalance of power

Rules against bullying 1. We will not bully others 2. We will try to help students who are bullied. 3. We will try to include students who are left out. 4. We will tell an adult at school and at home if we know that somebody is being bullied.

Sexual harassment Sexual harassment consists of unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature when:

Sexual harassment (cont.) c) Such conduct has the purpose or effect of unreasonably interfering with a student’s performance or creating an intimidating, hostile, or offensive learning environment.

Sexual harassment (cont.) Some examples: –“pantsing” –Calling someone “gay”, “fag”… etc… –Touching somebody in areas covered by undergarments (private areas) –teasing: “he likes you”, “you’re going out with her…”

Sexual harassment (cont.) Very important point: Even if another person ALLOWS you to do it, you are harassing “onlookers” and will be held responsible!

Conduct that endangers the safety, health and welfare of others… Vulgar / abusive language

Conduct that endangers the safety, health and welfare of others… Possessing, consuming, distributing, selling or exchanging illegal substances

Conduct that endangers the safety, morals, health and welfare of others… Sharing prescription or over the counter drugs Initiating a false emergency report

Misconduct on a school bus Excessive noise Pushing Shoving Fighting

Student dress code Safe Appropriate Does not interfere with the educational process Does not exclude

Student dress code Wearing of hats Clothing that: – is obscene, –promotes the use of alcohol, tobacco, or other illegal or violent activities Are prohibited by the code of conduct All underwear must be concealed and covered No exposed midrift

Guidelines regarding the wearing of “Group Clothing” A group of more than 7 students is not permitted to wear clothing or accessories designed for a select group of individuals within our student population.

Guidelines regarding the wearing of “Group Clothing” Do not wear on any day after a weekend Do not wear for at least two weeks after receiving

Computer Use/Safety Never… –Give personal info –Meet online “friends” –Open unknown files –Send inappropriate photos of yourself Comply with district policy

Hallway expectations Walk, don’t run Keep hands to self Walk on right side of hallways Do not block hallways

Cafeteria: Lunch Sit at the table you signed up for at the beginning of the school year. Have a pass if you are participating in an activity during your lunch period and need to eat first.

Cafeteria: Lunch The following are prohibited: –Running –Yelling –Throwing –Leaving without a pass Unreasonable noise

Cafeteria: Lunch Wait for your table to be called for lunch and form an orderly single line. Eat at your table. Students are responsible for cleaning their own tables.

Cafeteria: Lunch Passes are required anytime you leave the cafeteria, and you must sign out. Wait for your table to be dismissed at the end of the period. NO GROUP FOOD

After School Issues Students waiting for sports must NOT loiter outside the locker rooms, on the fields, outside school or in other areas during this time. Failure to comply with this may jeopardize students’ participation in sports.
