If the individuals you want to be in touch with on the Internet are visiting your website, and doing the thing that you want them to do, then it’s effective. Is Your Website Effective?

Part Two Soif you don’t have an audience in mind, and an action (conversion) in mind, you can’t judge the effectiveness of your website.

Who is your key audience? Identify them by characteristics and be specific Know Your Audience

When we’re on the web, we generally either want to get an answer to a question, or to get something done. Remember what they’re doing on the web

What’s their phone number? Do they have a big party coming up? Can I buy a ticket at the door? I’ve heard about xxx (something about your issue), but what’s really going on? What questions does your audience have that you can answer on your website?

Learn about the issue Send a message to a decision-maker Buy a ticket to your event What tasks are they there to complete?

Use your own experience as a website visitor – but not the websites you visit as part of your job. Think about websites you visit for fun or interest. Most people who visit your website don’t work in your field. Remember what you do on the web when you visit websites
