Submission doc.: IEEE af-11/1051r0 Dual band operation of TVBDs Date: July 20, 2011 Chen Sun, NICT Author(s): NameCompanyAddressPhone Chen SUNNICT Zhou Yohannes Demessie Hiroshi

Submission doc.: IEEE af-11/1051r0 Scenario 1 AP in TVWS utilizes the 2.4GHz to access TVWS database and initiate network in the TVWS Chen Sun, NICT

Submission doc.: IEEE af-11/1051r0 Scenario 1 Dual band AP initiates network in TVWS and provide enablement in ISM band ISM band AP/TVBD AP advertises its capability (embalmment mode 1, cf. doc:655) Or, ISM band AP/TVBD AP sends enabling signal in TV band indicates that the enablement in other band is possible (doc:656). –ISM band AP/TVBD AP indicates that it is an AP in the ISM band and the TVBD STA can obtain the list of available channels in the ISM band. TVBD STA hears in-band enabling signal in the TV band TVBD STA joints the network in the ISM band as a STA and keeps secured association so that the transportation of the list of available channels is secured. –[11ad] “A multi-band capable STA may use the same MAC address in both bands/channels or it may use different MAC addresses in each band/channel.” After obtaining the list of available channels in the ISM band, the TVBD STA starts communication. ISM band AP/TVBD AP sends CVS in the TV band to verify that the TVBD STA is in the valid range and verify the list of available channel every 60 seconds Chen Sun, NICT

Submission doc.: IEEE af-11/1051r0 Scenario 2 AP in TVWS utilizes the 2.4GHz to access TVWS database and initiate network in the TVWS Chen Sun, NICT

Submission doc.: IEEE af-11/1051r0 Scenario 2 AP in TVWS utilizes the 2.4GHz to access TVWS database and initiate network in the TVWS TVBD AP identifies a wireless network where the connection to the TVBD database is possible. –TVBD AP must identify which AP (AP1 or AP2) has connection to the TVWS database. –To assist the TVBD AP, AP 1 or AP2 broadcasts an advertisement beacon (cf. doc:655, enablement mode 0). TVBD AP joints the network in the 2.4GHz as a STA and keeps secured association. –This is required by the FCC for the TVBD AP to obtain the list of available channels and for the TVBD STA to verify its FCC ID. After obtaining the list of available channels, TVBD AP initiates a network in the TVWS. –TVBD AP sends in-band enabling signal –TVBD AP and TVBD STA perform enablement in the available TV channels. –TVBD sends CVS to verify that the TVBD STA is in the valid range and verify the list of available channel every 60 seconds Chen Sun, NICT

Submission doc.: IEEE af-11/1051r0 Scenario 3 Dual band STAs obtain the list of available channels in ISM band and set up IBSS in TVWS Dual bands STA identifies wireless networks where the connection to the TVBD database is possible. –To assist the TVBD STAs, AP 1 and AP2 broadcast advertisement beacons (cf. doc:655, enablement mode 0). Dual band STAs joint the network in the ISM band and keeps secured association. –This is required by the FCC for the TVBD STAs to obtain the list of available channels.
