From the Greatest Generation to the Latest Generation, Metz Elementary Supports Our Veterans!

On November 9 th, Metz Elementary students welcomed over thirty local veterans to their campus to honor them and to hear the stories of their past. Organized by Jennifer Atkinson, 1 st grade teacher at Metz, local area veterans and active-duty members of our military were invited to Metz’ Take a Veteran to School Day. Students completed research prior to the visit, and welcomed the veteran’s with full pomp and circumstance in a school-wide assembly. Valerie Galbraith, Principal of Metz Elementary, honored a veteran who is very special to her—her husband Billy Joe Galbraith.

Many children invited a parent, grandparent, or great-grandparent who is a veteran.

Each classroom received a special visit from at least one veteran who spoke to the individual classes and answered student questions.

The program “Take a Vet to School Day” is sponsored by the History Channel. om/minisite.do?conte nt_type=mini_home& mini_id=54799
