Customer Needs 1. Eco-Friendly (0.23,0.23) 1.1 Use solar panels for electricity (0.077, 0.33) 1.2 Use sunlight to heat house and water (0.077, 0.33) 1.3 Cool house efficiently (0.077, 0.33) 2. Appearance of house (0.21,0.21) 2.1 Reasonable amount of windows (0.07, 0.33) 2.2 Size of window (0.07, 0.33) 2.3 Pleasing to the eye (0.07, 0.33) 3. Safety (0.51, 0.51) 3.1 Low maintenance (0.51, 0.51) 4. Inexpensive (0.05, 0.05)

Revised Problem Statement  Our target population is homeowners looking to save energy through daylighting  Use natural sources to light and heat a house without releasing heat in winter and retaining heat in the summer.

Concepts  For our concepts we focused particularly on the windows and how we could light the house better and make it more eye pleasing

Concepts  Shade vs. Tint vs. Nothing  Plants indoor vs. Plant outdoors  Glass vs. Plastic  One pane vs. Two pane  Screen vs. No screen  Opening up vs. Opening out

Criteria for Selection  Safety  Expense  Amount of light coming in  Heat efficient  Pleasing to the eye

Bill of Materials  Each garden window is $514 48x36x12 There are five total  Top skylight Made up of ten 21 1/2 x 46 3/8 in Safety glass $202 each  Skylight on the side it tinted  Total cost of all windows is $4,590  Low-E2, Argon Gas Filled Comfortplus Glass

Comfortplus glass Comfortplus glass features a double- layer of low-E coating for increased energy efficiency plus a laminated pane for added safety and protection from fade-causing UV rays

Engineering Analysis  Reduced energy costs  Windows allow enough light to come in  Safe  Money saved over time will surpass the cost for the windows

Conclusions  Meets problem statement requests  Meets all customer needs
