M. Raymond – July 1 st, 2013 Summary of LS1 opening Detector movements to Standard Opening Planned from Feb. 14 th to March 8 th From Feb.14 th to March 13 th,  + 3 days C side in Large Opening configuration Planned on March 28 th Completed on March 25 th,  - 3 days Pixels in SR1 Planned on April 18 th Completed on April 9 th,  - 7 days Opening process went fine even if a very intense period 2 teams of 12 persons working in 2 shifts + experts supports : Safety, RPE… + Interventions of many experts on the various systems : Beam Pipes, Calorimeters, Cryogenics, Muons, Lucid, Survey Only one major problem : 140 T crane failed during HF Truck lifting on C side (on Feb. 19 th ) Repair completed on Feb. 22 nd

M. Raymond – July 1 st, 2013 Planned on March 13 th Completed on March 19 th,  + 4 days The installation of the lifting frame on the Small Wheel has been more difficult than expected : Expected difficulties were well anticipated Some unexpected ones appeared !! This milestone was not on the critical path of the schedule : Work has been done quietly without taking risk The whole opening process has been performed in reasonable agreement with the time schedule presented on previous Atlas week. It has open the door to significant activities on various detectors. SW-C at surface

M. Raymond – July 1 st, 2013 EE chamber installation Important activity regarding the schedule because of a strong impact on the activities in the experimental cavern : Parallel to the opening process Requires specific configuration + dismounting of many access platforms on A side Space consuming on A side, Large use of crane Preparatory work Planned to start on Feb. 21 st actual start on Feb 26 th Chamber installation (mechanics) EEL planned from Feb. 25 th to March 18 th performed from Feb 28 th to April 2 nd EES planned from March. 29 th to April 26 th performed from March 26 th to April 18 th Chamber alignment and commissioning Planned to be completed on May 8 th actual completion on May 15 th

M. Raymond – July 1 st, 2013 Objectives 2013 – Where we are Opening process Atlas opening Standard opening achieved after 3 weeks in 2 shifts Large opening needed 2 more weeks in standard hours SW-C to surface Pixels extraction Platforms and access Scaffolding to detectors Hand rails on top of JFS (to be installed in 2014) Fabrication and installation of additional access to EEL and EES 11 platforms installed 1 missing Replacement of provisional access with permanent platforms (S3 & S7) Legend : Done, On going, Not yet done Logistics Logistics for IBL Spare components on Muon system

M. Raymond – July 1 st, 2013 Objectives 2013 – Where we are Infrastructure and safety system Sniffers maintenance (  to be started again before end 2013) Improvement of plastic cover on top of PX16 Maintenance and upgrade of the existing movement system Improvement of air supply table Improvement of accuracy of detector positioning Improvement of ECTs movement devices (ECT-C done) Development of a new movement machine Consolidation / repair of the system Shielding ECT shielding : still under study TAS shielding : installed ECTs shielding : installed USA15 shielding (under study) IBL project Machining of finalized parts and assembly Set up of the environment around the mock-up (July / August 2013) Test and development around the mock-up

M. Raymond – July 1 st, 2013 Muon chambers EEL & EES installed Mechanics for BOE Fabrication of BW nacelle BOE installation Preparatory work for BME Small Wheel Support to the replacement of 2 CSC chambers (sept/oct 2013) Objectives 2013 – Where we are Magnet Design and manufacture of ECT Z-stops Dismounting / Mounting of BT diffusion pumps on A side Anti-seismic brackets installed Checking/Consolidation of Bus bars Upgrade of AFT, development on alignment system Warm structure check (control in 2013) Participation to DSS & Magnet control piquet Legend : Done, On going, Not yet done
