Biographia Literaria S.T.Coleridge1817

It is a text of poetry criticism. In this work Coleridge explained the different role that Wordsworth and he had in the production of Lirical Ballads.

Two cardinal points of poetry 1)The power of exciting the sympathy of the reader 2)The power of giving the interested of novelty to ordinary things

1)The first power could be obteined by a faithfull adherence to the truth of nature 2)The second power could be obteined by the modifyng colours of nature

Two sort of poems There also come into their mind the idea of composing two sorts of poems: 1)Poems deal with supernatural 2)Poems deal with things of ordinary life

Role of imagination Coleridge and Wordsworth agreed that using imagination was important to present ordinary things in an unusual aspect (Wordsworth), as for Coleridge imagination would help him to present the supernatural as if normal.

The poet The poet is a man with a higher level of sensibility. In addition to this, the poet has a magical power:Imagination.
