Presentation transcript:

 Grab your health booklet from the folder with your class period on it from the bottom of the cart.  You will also need a blank sheet of paper located on the desk in the front and a pencil  Turn on your brains for learning!

 What do you think it means to lead a healthy life?

 Health- a combination of physical, mental/emotional and social well-being  These things make up your health triangle.

 Physical : condition of your body › Ex: exercise, eating habits, sleeping  Mental/Emotional : thoughts and feelings › Ex: taking time to study, think, and express your feelings  Social : the way you relate to other people › Ex: spending time with family and friends  Changes that you make to one side, affect the other two sides.

 Wellness : a state of well-being or balanced health.  Habit : a pattern of behavior that you follow almost without thinking  You can achieve wellness through good health habits.

1. Mitchell is an excellent student. He spends most of his free time on his computer, so he doesn’t have much time for his family or friends. Mitchell keeps physically fit by jogging alone several times each week. Which side of his health triangle is the largest?

2. Karla spends a lot of time with her friends. They watch movies, listen to music, and go shopping together. Karla gets good grades except in her physical education class. She doesn’t get much physical activity and can’t keep up with the rest of the class. Which side of her health triangle would be the largest?

3. Raj loves sports and plays on the soccer and basketball teams. He doesn’t do very will with his schoolwork, though. Raj tries to avoid his problems by playing video games with his friends. Which side of his health triangle would be the largest?

4. Chantelle has a few close friends and sees them mostly on the weekends. Most weeknights she is busy with homework and spending time with her family. She gets very good grades. She bikes to school every day, and twice a week she has gymnastics class. Which side of her health triangle would be the largest?
