HOW DO STUDENTS LEARN? What do we already know as educators… Jean Piaget-60 years of educational research Benjamin Bloom’s Taxonomy, 1956 “You cannot teach concepts verbally; you must use methods founded on activity”. (Jean Piaget) The highest form of cognitive memory. (Create, plan, invent, construct, design, imagine). The lowest form of cognitive memory. (Name, describe, relate, find, list, tell). Multiple Choice Exam Creative Product Howard Gardner, theory of multiple intelligences. Gardner’s research explains that intelligence is not simply based off an IQ test score but rather described in eight different categories.

Where we are NOW ? A) The exam is a 75 multiple-choice exam B)The questioning techniques are low level according to Blooms Taxonomy Q-What artist created starry night? A-Van Gogh Q-What is another name for red? A-crimson Q-What drawing technique involves creating dots to show value? A-stippling C)The exam is not an effective way to measure “multiple intelligences” according to Howard Gardner D)The exam only measures quantitative not qualitative. E)The exam doesn't’t asses critical thinking skills and synthesis of information. F)The exam is not innovative, and fails to use contemporary technology which our district strives to be. The Current Test Format

Where CAN we be? The New Test Format I believe the BEST model to use to implement change is the AP College Board Digital Portfolio Assessment.

What Would a Digital Portfolio Exam Look Like? The Digital Portfolio would be two parts. A)5 works of art B)A written Portion This slide shows the 5 works of art 1.Students digitally submit 5 works they have done throughout the year. 2. Team of 6-9 art teachers evaluate the digital portfolios 3. Students earn an average score from three different evaluators. 4. Scores range from (1-5). The score is then translated into a letter grade.

What Would the Written Portion of the Exam Look Like? This is an example of the written portion & the Rational for Score

How Are Students Assessed? We could model after the AP College Board (2D and 3D) Portfolio Rubrics to create our own assessment EXAMPLE AP Rubric EXAMPLE AP Rubric

$ How Would Students Digitally Submit Work? We could model off of Florida Virtual Schools student submission Dashboard. We will need to work with the IT Dept. to create a Dashboard for students.

What Is The Estimated Cost To The District ?

Where Do We Go From Here ? MonthTeachersIT Dept Jun 1 st – July 30 th Form Committee & Create Rubrics Collect Requirements/RFQ Aug 1 st – Aug 30 th In-service Training Teachers Dec 1 st Finish Dashboard Jan 1 st Create a Help Desk/Tech Support Create a Video Demo Reg: Digital Submission Mar 1 st – May 1 st Students log on and upload work (similar to AP) Continue to monitor tech problems as students start uploading. May 1 st – May 30 th Team of 12 appointed evaluators assess portfolios. ( Teachers can assess remotely because it is digitized) Jun 1 st All portfolios are graded and exam scores are now available. Thank you! A critical Intervention Plan For University of Florida ARE 6641 Natalie Dellavia (Davis)
