SABR Updates Amy Yersavich, Ohio EPA VAP Certified Professional Annual Training October 27, 2015

 Training  Ohio Brownfield Conference Update  Targeted Brownfield Assessment (TBA) Update SABR Updates

Training In May of this year we provided an online training survey sent to all current VAP Certified Professionals. Several training topics stood out as ones for which many CPs desired new or additional training. We have covered many of these topics and will cover more topics today…. How to deal with common land uses that come up in the VAP (e.g. recreational, modified residential) which have no GNSs –covered at Summer 2015 CP Coffee Common RCRA issues that come up when conducting voluntary actions and how they effect VAP eligibility –covered at Summer 2015 CP Coffee Common risk issues that come up during NFA reviews/proper way to conduct MCA for multiple pathways, COCs/ how to properly demonstrate the inputs that are used for a VAP PSRA are appropriate for the property – will be covered today! CP vs. Env. Attorney involvement in preparing environmental covenants and when to issue the various affidavits required under VAP –covered at Summer 2015 CP Coffee Developing Conceptual Site Models for VAP Projects – will be covered today! Demonstrating POGWMUPUS– will be covered today!

Training – What’s Left? Models – Johnson and Ettinger, SESOIL and additional VISL Training for new CPs (or those who have not sat in on Audrey’s webinar training) We will start planning some modeling training sessions in Also, completion of DERR’s updated VI Guidance, slated for 2016, will help us determine the need for J&E and VISL (and other model?) training Survey – helpful? Should we conduct regularly?

Ohio Brownfield Conference 2016 April 6-7, 2016  Exhibitor Registration – will open in November  Attendee Registration – will open in late January or early February  Call for Presentations – currently out, deadline is November 13 – WE WILL BE EXTENDING DEADLINE TO NOVEMBER 30  THEME – 20 th Anniversary of the VAP! (final rules became effective in 1996). Plenary panels will be held focused on this theme and we encourage all to submit presentations that in some way reflect upon where we’ve been and where we are/should be going.

TBA Update- FFY16 New Federal Funding Year! Total Funding available this fiscal year = $557,000 Approximately 7 TBA projects currently in the “hopper” Readying sites for ODSA’s Abandoned Gas Station Grant Program – SABR can help with TBAs

TBA = CP Competition???? Site can be privately owned – public entity needs to get access for Ohio EPA staff and contractors to conduct investigation work Free Phase Is!! - they will be required under the Gas Station Grant Program (information gathered conducting Phase I can help make that Class C demonstration to BUSTR) Minimal sampling – TBAs provide a lot of this – Gas Station Grant eligibility requires demonstration that a Class C release has occurred on property (i.e. detection of Class C COCs) Work gets done that CP cannot or does not typically do, community saves money, CP looks like hero for knowing about this great resource and how it can help “clinch” that Abandoned Gas Station Grant!
