MEDICAL PROBLEMS, URGENT AND ACUTE CONDITIONS Kpt. Bc. Kateřina Tišerová

Vocabulary: Depressurisation=a loss of air pressure in an aircraft Disorientation=when a pilot does not know his attitude Fumes=smoke or gasses Immediate descent/climb=an increase or decrease in altitude without delay Leak=the escape of oxygen, fuel, etc, from the system Oxygen=a gas in the air Pressure=the force applied by something such as fuel, oil, air, etc Smoke= pollution from a fire

The topic in general

Pilot incapacitation = pilot is incapable of flying because of :  sickness  injury  medication  intoxication - the main reason why large commercial passenger aircraft have two pilots.

The medical problems and unusual situations, which can cause an emergency or urgent situation:  a heart attack  diarrhea or indigestion  depressurization  overload  causes of injuries (fire, bullets or fragments, etc)

A heart attack - the flow of oxygen-rich blood to a section of heart muscle suddenly becomes blocked. - muscle begins to die.

Indigestion:  diarrhea  vomiting  unconsciousness

Depressurization:  Hypoxia  Altitude sickness  Decompression sickness  Barotrauma

Overload:  positive overload  negative overload

Injuries:  Bullets  Fire, smoke, fumes  Fragments

Questions and discusion…
