There is a group of elephants: some of them are young, some are old, some are tall, some are fat and some are thin. They are all happy and they all have the same colour: grey. And then…there is Elmer! young old short tall fat thin

Elmer is different. Elmer is colourful. Elmer is yellow, orange, red, pink, purple, blue, green, white and black. Elmer is not grey as an elephant...

Elmer is happy and makes everybody laugh.

One night Elmer can’t sleep, he is sad because he feels different…he wants to be grey like his friends. He thinks everybody laughs because they make fun of him. So he runs away in the forest.

He meets a lot of animals: a lion a tiger a hippo and a turtle

a crocodile a giraffe a zebra

They all great him: a monkey

… and he answers back:

He has an idea: he colours himself with some grey berries.

On the way back, nobody recognises him, nobody tells him good morning! He is happy now, he is grey like the other elephants.

But they are very, very sad without him, they don’t laugh anymore.

Thank God it rains, Elmer is colourful again. All his friends are jumping with joy: Elmer is back!

To celebrate him they decide to colour themselves in many different ways, once a year: it’s Elmer’s Day!
