L16: US Foreign Policy in the 1990s American Foreign Policy Agenda Objective: 1.To analyze the nature of US foreign policy in the 1990s through the lens of the Persian Gulf War, US involvement in Kosovo, and the Rwandan Genocide Schedule: 1.Group Research 2.Discussion Homework: 1.Read New York Times articles on drone warfare for L18 (Tan = Fri 5/31; Red = Wed 6/5; Blue = Tues 6/4) 1.Work on Civic Literacy Assignment. US Foreign Policy in the 1990s Today we want to understand what US foreign policy looked like in the 1990s and discuss how the particular foreign policy approaches of this decade connect to/departure from past trends in US foreign policy.

Tasks Task One: Group Research –Using the computers, you will read about three US foreign policy actions in the 1990s: Persian Gulf War Rwandan Genocide 1994 Kosovo Engagement (Operation Allied Force) 1999 –For each engagement discuss and take notes on: Summary of Event US role in the event Identify 2 consistencies and/or departures with past US foreign policy Task Two: Whole Class Discussion –How do the foreign policy actions of 1990s connect to/departure from past trends in US foreign policy.
