AVID’s mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.

 Students with Academic Potential Average to High Test Scores GPA College Potential with Support Desire and Determination  Meets one or More of the following Criteria First to Attend College Historically Underserved in 4-year Colleges Low Income Special Circumstances

 Monitor schoolwork, attendance, grades and attend teacher or counselor conferences when requested  Partner with the AVID teacher or counselor in order to discuss any questions you might have in regards to your child’s academic performance or college information  Support your child in activities that further prepare him/her for college selection (i.e.: participation in college tours, being active in school or community activities, taking required standardized tests for college entrance, etc.)  Participate in AVID Parent meetings in order to learn about college preparation

Embedded in the class schedule are tutorials AVID tutors are college students who work in the AVID elective class directly under the supervision of an AVID-trained teacher. Tutors facilitate collaborative group sessions that enhance students’ abilities to utilize high order thinking, problem solving, thinking critically, and apply study skills. Tutors are required to assist students with effective problem solving and self reflection techniques.

 Debate  Wrestling  Golfing  STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics)  Basketball  Robotics  Peer Group Connections (A program that allows seniors to mentor younger students)  AVID Club

 Take the application home.  Applications must be returned to the school by no later than May 15 th.  You will be called back for an interview once all parts of the application packages are reviewed.  You will be contacted with an acceptance or rejection letter.
