6 S Management System The 6 S Management System focuses on having visual order, organization, cleanliness and standardization. The results you can expect from a 6 S program are: Improved profitability Efficiency Quality Service Safety Team Participation

6 S Management System

6 S & the Visual Workplace 6 S represents 5 disciplines for maintaining a visual workplace plus an addition Secret Factor. The First of the 5 disciplines is: 1.  SORT - Remove all items from the workplace that are not needed for current operations. Leave only the bare essentials. Targets excess inventory, obsolete items, quality defects, unneeded tools/equipment. Use tags, local and central tag holding areas; Account for discarded items. Take before and after pictures.

6 S & the Visual Workplace The Next of the 5 disciplines is: 2.  SET IN ORDER – Arrange needed items so that they are easy to find, use and put away. Use labels, outlining and signboard strategies. Establish teams to organize items. Use ergonomics when placing items on shelves – put heavier items below and lighter items higher.

6 S & the Visual Workplace The Next of the 5 disciplines is: 3.  SHINE – Sweeping, wiping-off equipment, painting and assuring everything stays clean. Create 6 S schedules for review of cleanliness Create 6 S cleaning inspection checklists Create current and future shine targets

6 S & the Visual Workplace The Next of the 5 disciplines is: 4.  STANDARDIZE – Method to maintain the first 3 disciplines (sort, set-in-order, shine). Prevention steps for clutter-suspension, incorporation, elimination Integrate duties into regular work with 6 S job cycle charts, 5 minute 6 S, visual 6 S activities

6 S & the Visual Workplace The Last of the 5 disciplines is: 5.  SUSTAIN – A top-down support of the continuous 6 S process. Create the conditions to support 6 S Allocate time Create awareness Provide structure Show support Offers rewards and recognition Encourage education/participation

6 S & the Visual Workplace After Implementing all 5 disciplines the Secret Factor is: SAFETY If all Team Members and Accounts are using the 5 S System everyone is working SAFELY!

Why Implement 6 S Implementing 6 S across the organization will: Changes the mindset of employees and facilitate continuous improvement. Improve the efficiency of employees and make them more productive. Reduce operating expenses by eliminating waste and excess inventory improving workplace efficiency. Develop a Quality Culture
