Emphasis on Disaster Relief Operation Guided by 3 humanitarian principles – humanity, neutrality and impartiality Laid out through United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) Resolution 46/182 Dec 1991 MAF role to assist and support the civil agencies based on National Security Council (NSC) Instruction No.20 Also our main reference in dealing with disaster in country At the regional and international level abide by following : –The Use of Military and Civil Defence Assets (MCDA) in Disaster Relief (Oslo Guidelines) –SOP for Regional Standby Arrangements and Coordination of Joint Disaster Relief and Emergency Response Operations (SASOP) –ASEAN Regional Forum SOP for Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (ARF HADR SOP) 3

MAF Role in Disaster Relief All DRO & HA is dealt by National Security Council By nature of its structure, organization and assets, MAF seen as an appropriate body for immediate response to DRO Capable of providing logistics and administrative support to other governmental bodies involved in DRO MAF Three and its Medical Services had developed the capability to provide assistance in HADR operation 4

Army Immediate search and rescue Provide treated water within the stricken area Construction of temporary shelter and clearance of debris Sanitation facilities and reopening of road communication system Provide logistics support in food supply, cooking facilities, land transport system, maintenance of mechanical equipment 5
