Chap 7 Nonstop Change The rising tide of change Always be forward thinking Shallow men speak of the past; wise men of the present; and fools of the future

Nonstop Change Always show or determine the worst case scenario. Don’t be overwhelmed by rapidly changing expectations. Clarify your mission. Regain trust.

Rebuilding Trust Do what you say Listen carefully Understand what matters to people and work hard to protect that Share your honesty Ask for feedback

Rebuilding Trust Don’t confuse being trustworthy with “being a buddy”. Don’t be surprised if folks are suspicious of your change plans. Don’t expect people to trust you more than you trust them.

Nonstop Change Transition is like a magnet, it attracts all the past problems. Make sure people understand the current and real problem. To make change, every level of the organization has to feel challenged. If employees feel like followers the change will fail.

Taking Care of Yourself Leadership is more challenging today. Leaders are caught between managers who want changes right now. Societal and technological changes are constantly occurring around us. Our roles at work, and at home, are also constantly changing. How do you take care of yourself under these pressures?

Taking Care of Yourself When management announces change decide what is actually changing. Figure out what will end for you. Figure out what will remain the same.

Taking Care of Yourself Recognize the neutral zone and understand it is uncomfortable, but it will end. Find some quiet time to get away from the chaos of the neutral zone and do something for yourself. Take stock of your skills by making a list of your attributes.

Taking Care of Yourself During the chaos of change, creatively look at your potential. What are your life values? What do you desire for yourself? How do your abilities match your desire? Can I learn something new? Become a life-long learner. Change with the times.

Keep Your Creative Juices Flowing Eat lunch in a different place. Rearrange your office. Take a new route to school or work. Volunteer, give back to the community. Do something new, theater, hobby, etc. Buy some new clothes, change your style. Take a needed vacation.

Taking Care of Yourself Plan a change in your life, don’t look back. Decide to show up and try something new. Be present, stay in the moment. Tell the truth, say what you think. Do your best. Open the door to your future!

Chapter 8 Apex manufacturing case. Market drop. Change for survival.

Chap 9 Conclusion Today's companies are reeling from the human impacts of imposed change. In the 21 st century change will move even faster. Technology, global competition, and demographics will become more pronounced.

Conclusion Managing change/transition will be vital. The cost of poorly managed transition can be remembered by the acronym GRASS. –Worker guilt. –Resentment. –Anxiety. –Self-absorption. –Stress.

Conclusion Change + Human Beings = Transition. There is no way to avoid it. But you can manage it. You have to make time to worry about employee reactions. Don’t leave behind a demoralized work force.
