Presentation transcript:

(Bird Dropping Spider)

Reproduction: The Bird Dropping Spider has egg sacs that are brown ball shaped sacs that are each about 12 mm in diameter and had about 200 eggs inside. No more than 13 sacs are threaded together in a group. The mother to these eggs is usually hanging around real close, waiting to catch its prey. Food: They eat male moths most of the time. At night the spider hangs from a thread with its legs stretched out. The spider releases a chemical that smells just like a female moth.

Spider Description: This spider looks like a pile of bird droppings. Predators avoid eating something that looks like animal waste. Markings on the body appear to look like a skull. Spider Size: The female is 12mm, while the male is only 2.5 mm. Spider Habitat: This particular spider can be found in the Eastern and Southern parts of Australia. They are found in suburban areas like gardens. Very hard to spot, because they tend to blend in with their surroundings. Spider Danger: If the Bird Dropping Spider were to bite you, nothing would happen unless you are allergic. Their bite is pretty much harmless.

Class: Arachnida Family: Araneidae Genus: Celaenia Order: Araneomorphae Species: Excavata Other names: Death’s Head Spider Orchard Spide r
