BALNEOTHERAPY IN CLUJ COUNTY, ROMANIA LASZLO IRSAY M.D., LIVIU POP M.D. REHABILITATION CLINIC – CLUJ, ROMANIA

in the centre of Transylvania surrounded by the Carpathians

the socio-economical changes of the past decades had a negative effect on most of the romanian spas there are almost 2000 springs in Romania: trace water (cold and thermal), carbonated, alkaline, salted, iodide, ferruginous, sulfurous, sulfated, radioactive → drinking cures and for external use geologically: most of the spas in Transylvania are formed on a continuous salt layer bioclimates: 3 major types medical muds (pelloids) salt-mine talasotherapy (Black-Sea)

RESORTS IN CLUJ COUNTY Cojocna Mica Ocna Dejului Sân Marghita Someşeni Băiţa Leghia Turda (Potaissa) Fântânele-Beliş - only a few are functional - all of them are seasonal (from May to September) - it could be a good choice for investment

Cojocna 20 kms from Cluj-Napoca 2 lakes generated from the collapsing of a salt-mine in total surface of m 2, m deep highly concentrated salt water: 133 g/l (Black Sea – 15.5 g/l; Dead Sea 330 g/l) Cojocna

Someşeni it’s part of the city Cluj-Napoca a typical example for a ruined resort in 1965 there were 27 springs, now only 4 are functional

-very rich and complex waters: salted, sulfurated, ferruginous, alkaline - with a total mineralization between: g/l - muds (water consistency approx g%) - protective bioclimate

patients never give up though…

TURDA – Potaissa (latin) 30 kms from Cluj-Napoca, at 350 m altitude Romans (Traianus emperor ) exploited salt here nowadays is a saline mine, used only for therapeutic purposes (and concerts)

total mineralizations: 19 to 225 g/l phenomenon of heliothermia pelloids like in Cojocna, there are salt lakes which was formed after a wall of the mine collapsed

THERAPEUTIC POSSIBILITIES, INDICATIONS I.for external use II.crenotherapic techniques III.mud packing IV.salt mine ► rehabilitation of musculoskeletal disorders, motor neuron disorders ► digestive system disorders ► recreation

Solving the problems…..
