How Do You Know Whether You Can Trust a Website??

What Makes a Good or Bad Website?

Test Before You Trust  Essential Question:  Why is it important to evaluate the source and validity of information?  Enduring Understandings:  Information should be evaluated critically to decide its purpose, trustworthiness, how up-to-date it is, and its ease- of-use.

Test Before You Trust  Checklist – Download the checklist from the website ("Test Before You Trust") that you will use when evaluating websites.  As a class, use the checklist to evaluate a website on Earthquakes so that you understand how to use the checklist and the terminology.Earthquakes

Trustworthy or Not?  We’ll look through several websites:  Why is it important to evaluate the source and validity of information?  Your Task:  Information should be evaluated critically to decide its purpose, trustworthiness, how up-to-date it is, and its ease-of-use.  Use the checklist to decide how each website rates in terms of the four criteria on the checklist. Give it a rating on a scale of 1 (low) to 5 (high).
