A LIP review and the M in MRLIP

Let’s review MRLIP MMovement RRegion LLocation IInteraction PPlace

Let’s review MRLIP We’ve learned about: LLocation IInteraction PPlace Before you move on: 1.On today’s notes sheet, explain each of these three themes in your own words.

MOVEMENT: the transfer of people, goods or information from one location to another Before you move on… Write this definition down in the space provided on your notes.

Let’s think about movement in terms of PEOPLE for now. Why do you think people move? Before you move on: Answer this question on #2 on your notes. 2. Why do you think people move?

People move because of: PUSH factors and PULL factors. Let’s look at both.

PUSH factors Push people out of a community Make people want to move away from where they are Typically negative Example:If the lake by my house flooded every year, that might me want to move somewhere else. Before you move on: Answer #3 on your notes sheet.

More examples of PUSH factors Natural disasters Unsafe area Change in employment (losing a job, not able to find a job, etc.) Inadequate (not good enough) education Inadequate healthcare Not enough recreational opportunities Unfavorable (you don’t like it) weather/climate

PUSH factors Can you come up with a PUSH factor by yourself? Before you move on: Answer #4 on your notes. What is a specific push factor that would make you want to move out of Trimble County?

PULL factors Pull people into a community Make people want to move into a community Typically positive Example:The opportunity of teaching at TCMS influenced my decision to move here. Before you move on: Answer #5 on your notes sheet.

More examples of PULL factors Nearby family Education opportunities (good schools, colleges you want to go to, etc.) Job opportunities (new or better job) Favorable (you like it) weather/climate Close to medical care Nearby recreational opportunities

PULL factors Can you come up with a PULL factor by yourself? Before you move on: Answer #6 on your notes. #6 What is a specific pull factor that would make you want to move to Trimble County?

You think you’re finished? Staple your notes into your folder. Take your folder to Ms. Spurr to put away. Obtain your ender quiz from Ms. Spurr. Complete your ender quiz by yourself (no help from a neighbor!). If you’re happy with your quiz, you may get on Carnegie for the remainder of the class period.
