Task List Instructions Mrs. Conte’s 3 rd grade music lessons 10 tasks to help you succeed!!! Recorder Lessons

1. Find a quiet spot to practice Try to have no distractions Be sure to play without interruption Close the door so as not to disturb others Play inside the house; not outside Communicate to your family what you need to succeed!

Your music book A pencil Your at home recorder 3 times a week for minutes 2. Have your materials ready to practice

3. Write your letter names under each note Under every note you should write it’s name Do not write under a rest Do write every note name under all of the ti-ti’s

4. Read your rhythm sounds out loud

5. Read your melody sounds out loud Feel your steady beat first! One, two ready go! Read your letter names to indicate high, low or same notes on the staff Read rhythm and melody at the same time Ti-ti’s should be read like ti- ti’s!

Set your beat first Audiate (hear yourself playing music inside your head) Place your fingers on the correct holes while you are reading Rest your mouthpiece at your chin; not in your mouth yet. 6. Finger your notes while you audiate

7. Play very slowly several times. Be sure to play slowly and accurately at first. Try to avoid mistakes by going very slowly Listen to your music making Begin with the beat!!!

8. Repeat problem areas 6 times. If it doesn’t sound right, go back and try it again until it does sound good!!!

9. Play in front of a mirror to check your technique (the proper way to play). Left hand on top Left fingers covering holes Right fingers above holes Elbows out at 45 degrees Start each sound with “too”

10. Give a concert for someone you know and have fun playing your music for them! If someone else plays an instrument, you could do a duet or even make a band of instruments! Have fun!!!

You will make some mistakes! That is part of learning to do anything well. Be proud of what you can do and show it!!!
