How to Obtain Your License
Stage One – Driver Education Enroll in Driver Education Pass Driver Education with a score no less than 60% Upon completion of Driver Education, your pink slip is issued. DO NOT LOSE THIS! At age 15 ½ you are eligible to take your permit test. BUT BEFORE YOU TAKE YOUR TEST…..
Stage One – Permit Test Day On the day of your test, bring the following to DMV: – Birth Certificate (no copies)/Social Security Number – Pink Slip (DL 387) – Completed DL-44 registration form with parent/guardian’s signature – $33
Stage One- Test Day Have your thumbprint and picture taken Pass an eye exam Pass the traffic laws test – 46 questions on the test, must correctly answer at least 38 to pass. – If you do not pass, you have 3 chances to re-take the test. (over 12 months) – You must wait one week in between tests.
Stage Two – Instructional Permit Complete six hours of professional behind the wheel training (permit is valid after first 2 hours!) Hold permit for at least six months Maintain a clean driving record 50 hours of practice with licensed adult age 25 or older – 10 hours but be at night
Stage Three – Provisional Drivers License Complete all requirements regarding permit Must be 16 years of age Provide proof of liability Parent/Guardian must verify 50 hours Pass behind the wheel test with score of at least 80
Stage Three –Provisional Drivers License For the first 12 months: – Cannot transport passengers under the age of 20* – Cannot drive between the hours of 11 p.m and 5 a.m* – *Unless accompanied by a licensed adult 25 or older, have family need, medical emergency, court statement, or turn age 18. – Maintain a clean driving record
Stage Three: Full License After 12 months or turn 18 years old Have no outstanding DMV or court order restrictions or probations. You do not need to return to DMV
