Duncanson Dock News Parent Visitation Thank you for coming to parent visitation. I hope that you enjoyed your time in the classroom. I know that the children did. Thank you for buying books for our classroom library at the book fair. We are very excited to read all of our new books. Police Visit The Manlius Police came to our school on Wednesday. We learned about all the different jobs Police Officers can do. They told us about their uniform and equipment. We also got to sit in a police car. Check out the pictures on the website. Our password is duncanson29.The Police Officers also talked to us about Halloween Safety. There is a Halloween Safety Night at the Manlius Police Department on October 28 from 5-8. Super Kid of the Day Check out the Super Kid of the Day Book in your child’s Friday Folder. We will not have a Star of the Week next week. Skype On Thursday, we skyped with a class from Wellwood. Three students took turns reading a book to our class. The children loved it! Writing Workshop In Writing Workshop this week, your child learned to think of something that really happened in his/her life and retell the event. Then, he/she drew a picture describing the event. We also learned to add labels and writing to our pictures. Halloween Party Our Halloween Party will be on Friday, October 31st. We will have a party in the afternoon at 12:45. The children will not get dressed until it is time for the parade. All parent volunteers for the Halloween parade should be in the classroom at 1:50 to help the children get dressed. Your child should bring his/her costume to school in a bag or backpack. No weapons are allowed even if they are part of a costume. We can put some face make up on (black under eyes or lipstick). But, please do not have your child choose a costume with a great deal of face make up. We have 21 students we need to help and we won’t have time to do elaborate face art. Thanks! IMPORTANT Since the parade is at 2:30 many parents like to take their children home after the paraded instead of having them take the bus. If you would like to take your child home, you will need to come into the classroom to sign your child out. I will have a sign out sheet. It also would be helpful for you to send a note in with your child. Math This week in math we learned a new game called Roll and Record. In this game, we are practicing counting and writing our numbers. I will send this game home soon. At home you can practice counting by having your child grab a set of objects to 10 (pennies,m&m’s,toy cars, etc.) Then, ask your child to count the objects and draw pictures to represent the number of objects grabbed. Reading This week we read the books: I Can (different from last week) and I Can See. We learned about counting the words and we put a dot under each word on the page. We are trying to point to the words. The popcorn words we have learned so far are: I, can, see, & to. We also read the nursery rhyme: Hey Diddle Diddle. Cold Weather Ahead We want recess to be an enjoyable experience for everyone. Always dress your child for outside recess. Central New York weather is ever changing. :) Fall: a jacket, sweatshirt or sweater Start thinking about boots and a winter coat; you never know when it may snow! Our Tree We decided to adopt a tree in the backyard of Mott Road. It is a Pin Oak tree. We can see this tree from our window. We will watch how it changes through the seasons.
