SOURCES OF ENERGY 1 Adapted from Ms. Ashby:
Energy  Humans use varied energy resources  Most came from solar energy  Decomposition of plants, animals buried underground form fossil fuels Which.
Energy Resources: Renewable/Nonrenewable. Renewable resources: Resources that can be replaced in a relatively short period of time.
Energy Production & Carbon Emissions. Why Do We Need Energy? Energy is the ability to do work. We must have energy in order to survive. This means that.
Energy Resources!. Nonrenewable Resources A resource that forms at a rate that is much slower than the rate at which it is used Fossil Fuels – Formed.

 Hydropower is “electricity [or work] generated using the energy of moving water (National Geographic).”
Hydropower. Hydropower is the energy we make with moving water. Hydro means water.
Energy Resources A natural resource that can be converted by humans into other forms of energy in order to do useful work.

Presentation transcript:

Hydropower & Natural Gas

Important details How is the energy source used to produce electricity? Is the energy source renewable or non renewable? Why? How long have humans is used this energy source? Give examples of were this use begun and how it was used It makes the water into electricity the dam holds back the water and the water that falls is the energy. Renewable because of the water cycle. It cycles its self from air, to land, and to water again. 2,000 years ago Greeks use water wheels to grind their wheat.

Pros and cons of hydropower  Pros  Causes little pollution  Renewable  Inexpensive  Reduces the demand for fossil fules  Cons  Kills wild life  Be effective by drought  Large numbers of fish die each year  Erosion problems  Potential for floods

How is the energy form used in present day? List 5 examples  To make energy  Lots of electricity  Used in millstones  Wave power  Tidal powers

Natural gas Important details How is the energy source used to produce electricity ? Describe the process. Is the energy renewable or nonrenewable? Why? How long have humans used this energy source? Give ex of where this use begun and how it was used. Heating the stove you can cook with it. Nonrenewable because it takes millions of years to form. Used for 21 years in grills.

Pros and cons of natural gas  Pros  Generates electricity  Less air pollution  Used for heating  widely available  Cleanest fossil fuel  Cons  Very flammable and explosive  Pipe lines impact ecosystem  Burns cleanly, but still has emission  Cost are high  Lack of infrastructure makes gas resources unavailable for some areas.

How is the energy form used in present day? List 5 examples  Gas  Stoves  Grills  Cars  Heat  Propane
