JISC Conference – XCRI Implementation Models XIM

To help HEIs and other organisations to implement XCRI-CAP driven services to facilitate the exchange and re-use of course advertising information. JISC Conference – XIM: XCRI Implementation Models Aim XCRI

JISC Conference –  A characterisation of organisational use of course advertising information.  Scenarios and business process models for use of XCRI-CAP within common points in the characterisation.  Descriptions of common problems and solutions, dependent on organisational characteristics.  ICT  Political  Process  Pre-requisites for successful implementation  A service genre for submission to the e-Framework on publishing and/or exchanging course advertising information.

JISC Conference –  Review XCRI project literature, implementations and consult with relevant organisations and projects; identify individuals to be involved in validation exercises  Draw up the ‘characterisation scales’ and validate with institutions  Carry out business process modelling and build scenarios for a variety of organisational types; identify problems and solutions  Review the models and scenarios with previously identified validators  Write service genre or SUM; create report

Key to scale: 0 = Least favourable circumstance 4 = Perfect! JISC Conference –

ProblemSolutions??? How do we integrate existing systems? How do we integrate WITH existing systems? Focus on business needs not technical perfection. Use common IDs and structures. Always plan for data re-use. Use technologies in line with your developing culture. The institution is re-organising the department, its courses, everything! Use small scale projects for incremental gains; plan for delays. Resources?!Identify key stakeholders in your institution and get their buy-in. How do we get (and keep) stakeholder engagement? Establish regular, high quality communications; find champions and use them! Deliver ‘quick wins’ to promote the cause. We have an annual cycle and refresh all the data. How do we do updates? Review content management processes – XIM will have suggestions in the future! We have other projects that cut across course advertising information! Eliminate or reduce inter-project dependencies; actively manage risks.

JISC Conference –

 Multiple source aggregation  Integrated content management system  Feedback from a 3 rd party data collector  Agency or outsourcing  and maybe more… JISC Conference –
