Alliteration & Repetition Poetry 101

Alliteration The repetition of the same letter or sound at the beginning of words. Example 1: She sells sea shells by the sea shore. Example 2: Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.

Betty Botter Bought Some Butter But, she said, the butter's bitter; If I put it in my batter, It will make my batter bitter. But, a bit of better butter, Will make my batter better. So, she bought a bit of butter, Better than her bitter butter, And she put it in her batter, And the batter was not bitter. So, 'twas better Betty Botter, Bought a bit of better butter.

Repetition The action of repeating sounds, words, phrases, lines, or stanzas that have already been said or written Used to emphasize a point or an emotion “The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
