Pg. 89

Invasive vs Non-native Species Invasive= an organism (plant, animal, fungus, or bacterium) that is not native and has negative effects on our economy, our environment, or our health. Not all introduced species are invasive. Invasive plants and animals are the second greatest threat to biodiversity after habitat loss Non-native= an organism that is from another continent, country, or area of the world

What makes a species invasive: 1. They tolerate a variety of habitat conditions 2. They grow and reproduce rapidly 3. They compete aggressively for resources (like food, water, and nesting sites) 4. They lack natural enemies or pests in the new ecosystem

Invasive Species Project You will be partnered up and work together to research an assigned invasive species. You will create a poster to share with the class on your assigned species. Project will be due Friday, February 5 th

Rubric: What you’ll be graded on You need to include: Native origin (10) Invaded location (10) Means of introduction (20) Typical environment (10) Economic and/or social impacts (30) Potential control measures (10) Pictures (10)
