Presentation transcript:

1. The real battles of life are spiritual - Eph The armies of Satan are organized to do battle effectively 3. Our spiritual preparation is critical to that battle Ten Key Principles of War

4. Prayer is an important aspect of our role 5. Answers to prayer often involve a time element we find distasteful, that threaten our faith, and in which our ignorance and neglect of time threaten our participation - Daniel 10 Ten Key Principles of War

6. Entire nations and their destiny are involved in the battle 7. The angels of God are engaged to help us - Dan. 10, Heb God hears the prayers of those who pray according to His will - 1 John 5 Ten Key Principles of War

9. Satan has an organized teaching to discourage and confuse us - 1 Tim The movement of nations has as a goal to cause men to seek God - Acts 17; 1 Tim. 2 Ten Key Principles of War

It is self-centered ignorance of the Word that provokes us to quit! Ten Key Principles of War

1. Prayer in saving others from physical sickness 5:14-16a 2. Prayers from one can impact many 5:16b 3. Our prayers can save a nation 5: Our prayers can save an individual 5:19-20 Prayer in Saving Others - Jas. 5:14-20

1. Prayers in God's will are granted 5:14-15 (We can count on God's aid in obedience) 2. We can help rescue a brother in sin 5:16-17 The (further) Power of Prayer - 1 Jn. 5:14-17

Our prayers for believers struggling with sin are answered. The (further) Power of Prayer - 1 Jn. 5:16a

Notice that this is a "brother" _____________________________ Our love should provoke prayer for others in sin. The (further) Power of Prayer - 1 Jn. 5:16b

Believers can commit sins that lead to physical death! Acts 5:1-11; 1 Cor. 11:27-30 ________________________ Notice that this is especially true with severe violations of the local fellowship! The (further) Power of Prayer - 1 Jn. 5:16b

We certainly can pray for sins that appear to be leading to death, but we do not have a guarantee they will be answered. The (further) Power of Prayer - 1 Jn. 5:17

All sins ultimately lead to death, turning from sin can lead to extending our lives. (Pr. 10:2; 11:4, 19; 12;28) ____________________________ Many common sins do not directly lead to a swift death. The (further) Power of Prayer - 1 Jn. 5:17

Prayer for believers involved in sin is clearly an act of love in which our faith can be confidently exercised. _________________________ We see a coming together of 3:23! The (further) Power of Prayer - 1 Jn. 5:17

All Christians have an inner self that has been made perfect, completely righteous, without sin. Eph. 4:24; Rom. 7:22; 1 John 3:9 What we know - #1- 1 Jn. 5:18

Of course, our perfect inner selves are still trapped inside the flesh in this world and so we still sin as complete persons. Romans 7:15-24 What we know - #1- 1 Jn. 5:18

When looked at from the standpoint of our new selves, we are sinless. __________________ In fact, our new, regenerate selves are incapable of sin! What we know - #1- 1 Jn. 5:18

"keeps himself" Our inner self doesn't prevent all sin (1:8), but God's word (seed) is a controlling factor in our born again natures. What we know - #1- 1 Jn. 5:18

That controlling influence in our inner selves cannot be defeated or even touched by Satan! What we know - #1- 1 Jn. 5:18

No matter how often or how badly we fail as believers, it never touches who we are at the deepest level of our beings! What we know - #1- 1 Jn. 5:18

There is in all of us what one person called the "sinful programming" of our flesh. But none of our failures will ever change the reality of who we really are! What we know - #1- 1 Jn. 5:18

If we let him, Satan can fool us. Satan can convince us to do wrong. __________________________ If we don't embrace the reality of this verse, Satan will use our failures to sin more. What we know - #1- 1 Jn. 5:18

But after each failure, no matter how bad, we should once again remind ourselves of the permanent, unchanging reality of who we are! _____________________________________ We are holy. We are righteous. And we will be forever! What we know - #1- 1 Jn. 5:18

Because we know who we are, we know that we are on God's side and experience fellowship with Him. What we know - #2 - 1 Jn. 5:19

It should never surprise us, then, that the world is influenced by Satan. What we know - #2 - 1 Jn. 5:19

We are God's agents in a world that is influenced by our enemy. We should not love a world like that nor let it influence our thinking. What we know - #2 - 1 Jn. 5:19

God has given us the spiritual "intelligence" or "intellect" to know God. 1 Cor. 2:15-16; 1 Jn. 4:8-11 What we know - #3 - 1 Jn. 5:20-21

The God we come to know is the true God and as we come to know Him better, this keeps us from the idols John is concerned about in v. 21. There is no God but our God! What we know - #3 - 1 Jn. 5:20-21

When we abide or stay close to God we also stay close to Jesus. There is no difference. What we know - #3 - 1 Jn. 5:20-21

Jesus Christ is the true God and eternal life! 1 John 1:1-4 Worshipping or pursuing any other "god" in our lives is foolish! What we know - #3 - 1 Jn. 5:20-21
