Bronze A

Background Bronze warrior c B.C. 2.3 m tall Found in the sea off Riace Would have held shield and sword Sculptor unknown Part of a group. The Seven against Thebes?

Classical Elements Turned head Severe style Twisted pose Hair Legs and arms lengthened Attributes (shield, sword) Not much symmetry contrapposto Weight shift on right leg

The Statues: A Warrior A looks younger than Warrior B. Head tilted to the side gives the statue an increased sense of realism. Mouth open seems to show capturing of a moment rather than a pose, as if the statue is frozen mid-speech.

Calcite eyes Silver teeth Copper lips

Copper nipples Chest muscles relaxed

No coccyx Impossibly deep groove Back muscles tense

Dr Spivey says: Every artist wants to divide the sections of the body clearly, but here this is taken to extremes. The division between top and bottom has been exaggerated by a crest of muscles across the waist, modified as it cannot be on a real human. The legs have been made artificially long to match perfectly the length of the upper body.
