* Fingerprint technicians typically work in a crime laboratory or within law enforcement agencies. * A fingerprint technician works to recreate the circumstances surrounding a crime scene in an attempt to find the truth using evidence. * This requires collecting, examining, analyzing and comparing fingerprint evidence to identify suspects and victims in criminal cases.

* There is an increase in demand for Fingerprint Analysts * Projected Job Growth over the next 7 years: 6% * The increase in crime rate calls for more fingerprint analysts to help process information found at crime scenes.

* Not stuck in an office all day, you are constantly traveling back and forth between the crime scene and the lab. * There is an increase in employment opportunities * Opportunities for promotion.

* Long hours: Fingerprint Analyst’s need to be available to work long hours processing evidence found at crime scenes so the case can be solved quickly. * Schooling: it is recommended to have a bachelor’s degree, several years of full-time job experience, and to be certified.

* Hours: No set hours. * Median salary: $55,360. * Reported wages: $ $30 per hour.

Where: * At the crime scene gathering / identifying evidence. * In the laboratory. Physical Demands: * Strong vision.

* International Association for Identification (IAI): professional certification. * The American Academy of Forensic Sciences: Promotes professionalism, integrity, competency and education.

* A bachelor's degree in a natural science or forensic science. * It is recommended to have several years of full-time job experience as a fingerprint Analyst and professional certification through the International Association for Identification. The “IAI” offers a 5-year certification program.
