Some required materials  Text book, novel, ERWC unit materials  3 ring binder  Silent reading book (Fiction or Nonfiction)  Composition book

Required and useful tools  Flash drive for Research Paper and typed essays  La Mirada H.S. I.D. card (Computer Lab/ Library)  Public Library Card. Access to database  Other materials (pen/pencil/paper) Written assignments in ink

Graded work  Writing Assignments 40% of grade  Tests/ Projects/Presentations 20% of grade  Participation 10%  Homework and Classwork 15%  Notebook and Binder 15%  Scale is %= A 89-80=B 79-70=C 69-60= D Below 59%=F

Reading  Reading a novel can be difficult for some students  Use Sparknotes or Cliffsnotes  Arrange Reading and quiet time in the home  Ability increases quickly with practice.
