DISTRIBUTION STATEMENT A. Approved for public release; distribution is unlimited. Integrity  Service  Excellence SUAS Indoor Flight Laboratory Overview 11 JAN 2014 Craig Cox DR-II RQVA Air Force Research Laboratory

DISTRIBUTION STATEMENT A. Approved for public release; distribution is unlimited. Facility Overview Large indoor space with real-time position/attitude data for multiple vehicles Safety plan allows testing of certain vehicle types without additional approval –Less than 3 pounds –Electric power (or unpowered) –Landing speed less than 10 mph –Restrictions on wingspans and rotor spans

DISTRIBUTION STATEMENT A. Approved for public release; distribution is unlimited. Flight Lab Geometry Control Station 70’ 55’ ~20’ flying height = Vicon camera

DISTRIBUTION STATEMENT A. Approved for public release; distribution is unlimited. Data Acquisition TruthServer provides position/attitude information for multiple vehicles –60 Vicon motion capture cameras provide excellent coverage of entire space –Precisions are ~1 mm, ~0.1 deg –Smoothed real-time data eliminates effect of occasional Vicon camera dropouts and blips Raw data is also available in real-time –Information is multicast to multiple network clients using a well-defined protocol

DISTRIBUTION STATEMENT A. Approved for public release; distribution is unlimited. Vehicle Control Realtime TruthServer data serves as input to controller and vehicle –Customer may provide controller and vehicle –In-house controllers and vehicles are also available for certain tasks In-house controllers and vehicles currently limited to small numbers (~3) –Planned upgrade will permit multiple controllers and vehicles (~12)

DISTRIBUTION STATEMENT A. Approved for public release; distribution is unlimited. Testing Uses System ID of new vehicles under human or computer control Cooperative control between multiple vehicles Swarming research –“Dumb” vehicles, smart system response Autonomous/intelligent vehicle behavior exploration
