PROPOSAL TEAM Bradley Hudson – Teacher in Charge of Water Polo at St Patrick’s College – Chairman, Wellington Water Polo Board Kevin Flynn – Treasurer, Wellington Water Polo Board
HISTORY OF THE TRANS-TASMAN CUP The Trans-Tasman schoolboy’s water polo cup is Australasia’s premier inter-school water polo event. Teams are invited from schools throughout Australia and New Zealand in order to provide the highest level of inter-school competition possible. The Trans Tasman Schoolboy’s Cup was first held in 2004 by the Church of England Boys Grammar School in Brisbane as an invitational event in response to the cancellation of the Southern Skies water polo tournament. Following that first event a group of schools met and established the official Trans-Tasman Schoolboys Cup – with the intention of rotating it around Auckland, Queensland and Sydney or Melbourne. These original schools included Sacred Heart College Auckland, Auckland Grammar, Brisbane Boy’s Grammar, Church Grammar, Westlake Boy’s High School and Rangitoto College. Melbourne High School, Newington College and St Aloysius joined this group and have also become regular participants in the tournament. There have been 10 official events held since then – 5 times in Queensland/Sydney/Melbourne, once in Canberra and four times in Auckland. The 2015 event was hosted by Newington College, Sydney, Australia. The 2016 event is hosted by Sacred Heart College, Auckland, New Zealand
