Presentation transcript:

Early Farmers As bands grew, people realized that hunting and gathering would no longer meet the needs of the band. When did people realize that hunting and gathering would not meet the needs of the band?

People began to domesticate “tame” plants and animals. The first animal to be domesticated was probably the dog. What animal was probably the first animal to be domesticated?

People needed to stay in one place to care for plants. Most people settled near rivers, streams or lakes to have a constant supply of water. Why did people need to stay in one place? What natural resource did most early people settle around?

 Many people who cared for animals were nomads, people who moved from place to place for water and food. Who were people who cared for animals who moved from place to place?

Animals could be used for wool, meat, milk, and also work (pull plows, help hunt, collect water). What could animals be used for?

Some people still hunted and gathered. It was a time of transition. Why was this time considered a time of transition?

There were many positive effects of agriculture: 1. more food 2. development of tools 3. developed new ways of doing things 4. more people 5. live longer 6. year round settlements What are some positive effects of agriculture?

 There were many negative effects of agriculture: 1.need more food for animals 2.Larger amount of deaths due to disease and starvation, drought, insects 3.war to protect land 4.building walls 5.building weapons What are some negative effects of agriculture?

Different crops and animals were raised in different parts of the world (diversity of agriculture). What is diversity of agriculture?
