Rosh Hashanah Jewish New Year

Rosh Hashanah The Jewish New Year is celebrated for 2 days. They think about all the mistakes they have made in the last year. Rosh Hashanah is a fresh start.

Rosh Hashanah They eat apples dipped in honey. Apples and honey are sweet. Jewish people eat them to show they hope the coming year will be sweet, or good, and full of good things.

Rosh Hashanah They go to the river. They say a prayer. They throw bread crumbs or pieces of paper in the water. This means they get rid of all their sins: the bad things they have done. This means they can have a fresh start and try to be good.

Rosh Hashanah

Rosh Hashanah They go to the synagogue. They pray there. The rabbi blows a shofar: a ram’s horn. They blow it 100 times!

Rosh Hashanah They eat lots of special food to celebrate.

Rosh Hashanah They eat a pomegranate. Pomegranates have lots of seeds. This shows that the people want to do lots of good things in the next year.
