Language Arts: develop strategies to read and write, apply strategies and skills to comprehend text that is read, heard and viewed, make connections through oral and written language, and media and technology, apply strategies to create oral, written, and visual texts, apply grammar and language conventions

How your child can accomplish his/her SCHOOL YEAR Resolutions (cont.)! Social Studies North Carolina Culture and Government North Carolina History North Carolina Geography Economics Science Moon Phases, Weathering, and Fossils Animals Studies Rocks and Minerals Electricity and Magnetism

How can we stick to our School Year Resolutions? Homework is generally assigned daily. It should be turned in on the day it is due. Please check planner and website for weekly assignments. Homework gives beneficial reinforcement to concepts covered in class.

How will we know if we’ve accomplished our School Year Resolutions? Grades will be posted on line weekly on Parent Assist. Students will have weekly spelling tests and timed multiplication/division tests and measurement tests. We have weekly assessments in reading for in-class studies. Each math unit will have a test. Each science and Social Studies unit will have a test. Wordly Wise tests are every two weeks with tests being on the second Thursday. Each student should read 1 chapter book and one non- fiction book on their level each month. This requires some planning to stay on top of the requirements. End of Quarter tests are administered for evaluation purposes only. They are not part of the grade. Two writing tasks are administered in the fourth grade. Two content based papers are done in class and scored by the fourth grade team.

Supporting our Students Students learn better with help at home. Good support-listening to your child read, asking questions, making math meaningful at home-example cooking measurements makes a big difference. We are working to get our fourth graders more independent but they all still a little help. Please read the handout and try some of the idea! There are TONS of resources at Mrs. Peele’s blog: – On the right under “Rockin’ Resources” Please ask questions if you need help!

Let’s Celebrate All Year Long! It is our job to keep the students motivated and ready to attack each day. Sometimes the small victories mean the most.
