The Innocent Punishment A Hindi Story by Maitreyee Patki Lesson Aims: To understand why it is important to have all the facts before drawing a conclusion Lesson Objectives: Identify and use examples of alliteration Write a story modelled on the original; including a twist and examples of alliteration

Thinking Points  What happened at the end of the story?  Were you surprised by the twist?  Can you think of any other stories that have twists at the end?  What do you think the moral of this story might be?

Alliteration  Alliteration is when the first letter or sound of a word is repeated For example: Sam saw a swimmer in the sea Or, from the story: “The royal courtroom was buzzing with conversation as Akbar’s advisors awaited the arrival of their Emperor”

Alliteration  Why do you think writers use alliteration?  Can you think of some examples of your own?

A Twist in the Tale In “The Innocent Punishment” there is a twist at the end of the story.  Why do you think the writer wrote the story in this way?

A Twist in the Tale  Your task is to write a story of your own  It should have a twist at the end to keep your reader guessing!  Try and use at least one example of alliteration  Your story could have a wise advisor, or something completely different!

Writing your story  Who is your main character?  Where is your story set?  When do the events take place?  What will happen to your main character?  Remember to include a twist! Think about…

The Wise Advisor  Why was he wise?  What might have happened if he hadn’t been there?  What can we learn from this story?
