UNIT 7 & 8: STI PREVENTION & SEX ED INTIMACY

WHAT IS INTIMACY? “in to me see” Allowing another person to see into us Sharing who we are with another person Ability to be vulnerable with someone & still feel safe

FOUR DOMAINS OF INTIMACY Cognitive or intellectual: Exchange thoughts, ideas, opinions Experiential: Involvement in mutual activities Emotional: Share feelings, empathize, understand each other Physical: Physical closeness, touching, sexual touch, intercourse

RELATIONSHIP ESSENTIALS HONESTY & SAFETY How can a lack of honesty or safety put a person at risk for HIV, STIs, & pregnancy? Might not tell the other person they have STI Might not say they have had other partners Might not be willing to take joint responsibility for birth control/STI prevention Might push for sex or not consider the emotional or physical consequences

WAYS TO BUILD INTIMACY Meaningful relationships are more than sexual attraction and more than having sexual intercourse.
