Homophobia Callum Cooke

homophobia [hoh-muh-foh-bee-uh] –noun unreasoning fear of or antipathy toward homosexuals and homosexuality.

Lesbian, gay and bisexual youth are at a four times higher risk for suicide than their straight peers.

42% of homeless youth identify as lesbian, gay or bisexual.

The vast majority of victims of anti-lesbian/gay violence - possibly more than 80% - never report the incident, often due to fear of being "outed."

Students who describe themselves as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgendered are five times more likely to miss school because of feeling unsafe. 28% are forced to drop out.

85% of teachers oppose integrating lesbian, gay and bisexual themes in their curricula.

Is this the type of world you want to live in?

Did you know...

97% of students report regularly hearing homophobic remarks from their peers

The average high school student in the U.S. hears anti-gay slurs 25 times per day.

Think about it. I bet you've all said words such as gay, bender and faggot to offend somebody.

But, you don't realise how much comments like that can hurt.

Gay, lesbian & bisexual youth are more likely to have attempted suicide than their straight peers.

Gay, lesbian & bisexual youth represent 30% of all teen suicides.

Don't you think it's time for a change?

Only together can we end this hate.

Only together can we all become equal.

Action is needed now against homophobia!
