Matter and Measurement Mrs. Alvarez 9/2013.  Definition: Mass per unit volume of a substance  Formula: D = m/V ; units: g/mL, g/cm 3, kg/L.
Volume, Mass, and Density Matter is anything that has mass and takes up space. Mass is a measure of how much matter is in an object. Mass can be expressed.
Volume. Volume: is the amount of space an object takes up Metric standard for volume is the liter (L) 1L = 1000ml = 1000 cm.

 Complete the following conversions:  38 cm into meters  459 mL into centiliters  1123 kg in grams

 Identify 3 base SI units.

 Why are meters easier to use than inches, especially if you have to convert to a different unit?

 Convert 1750 ml to liters.  Convert 2 ½ liters to cc  (Cubic centimeters)

 How many seconds are in 4 hours?  Hint 1 minute = 60 seconds and  1 hour = 60 minutes  Line up by my desk for me to check your FOUR bell ringers from this week (August 26-29)  DO NOT tear them out of your notebook  If you have make up work, hold on to it for a few minutes

 Based on these definitions, identify the type of graph that would be most appropriate. A. Heating a pan of water over a time period B. Measuring the amount of each gas in air C. Shows height change over 15 year period D. How allowance is spent on different things

 Line up by my desk for me to check your bell ringers  DO NOT tear them out of your notebook
