Web Usability Purpose Audience  Users Information Architecture Page Layout UI Prototype Resources

Purpose Enhance user productivity.  Save money Attract potential customers.  Get money Accessible to all users. 

Audience Internet  Public users with broad levels of hardware, software, and accessibility. Extranet  Public users with some relationship to the business. Intranet  Private users within the business. Typically controlled hardware and software.

Users Use websites to complete specific tasks.  Look for content.  Scan rather than read. Want to complete tasks quickly.  1 second: Threshold of continuity.  10 seconds: Threshold of patience.

Information Architecture Diagram the flow of websites. Find meaningful categories. Establish consistent language. Break content into meaningful chunks.

Page Layout Where am I?  Logo, consistent style and colors. Where have I been?  Purple links, breadcrumbs and other navigation aids. Where can I go?  Descriptive and structural links.
