Simile and Metaphor

SimileMetaphor The boss’ entrance into the room was like thunder. The boss thundered into the room

Simile Metaphor The witness was grilled like a well-done steak by the lawyer. The lawyer grilled the witness on the stand.

Both can be used in the same sentence. The razor sharp mountains high above, left me feeling like an ant below.

Activity Directions With your partner (or group of three), read your simile or metaphor. Read the poem that it came from and discuss why the author might have used it in their poem. Next, create a visual for your metaphor or simile. Try to relate it in some way to the poem as a whole. Be sure to write your simile or metaphor somewhere on your paper. You may use crayons, markers, and/or create a collage using the magazines.
